About VGL

Hi, and welcome to VideoGameLizard (VGL)!

This project was born from a passion for discovering curious, exciting, and incredible video games. If that sounds like your thing, you’ve come to the right place!

For us, gaming is more than just playing – it’s about sharing experiences, engaging with a community, and diving deep into what makes these games special. That’s why VGL exists: to write about our journey through games, document the challenges we’ve tackled, and be part of a supportive community that encourages others to reach their goals.

As you browse through the site’s featured reviews and challenges, you’ll notice a common thread: Many of the games showcased on VGL are from independent studios. This is no coincidence. With the sheer number of games released every week, month, and year – and given that VGL started as a one-man project – we decided to narrow the scope of the site and focus on Indie and lesser-known titles.

We believe in supporting the unique visions of small studios and development teams. These games are often labors of love and passion, with the potential to become truly unique and memorable experiences. In fact, many of our all-time favorite games come from this flourishing scene.

In summary, VideoGameLizard started as a one-man project with a focus on independent and niche games, and has meanwhile become a place where three like-minded individuals share their passion about video games in the form of written reviews and articles. Unlike many other gaming sites, VGL doesn’t cover rumors or news – We’re interested in the finished product only. VGL is built on three key pillars:

Honest reviews

Our goal is to provide genuine reviews that help readers understand both the strengths and weaknesses of a game. We approach each game from perspectives relevant to its genre, with a strong emphasis on gameplay. We often write reviews while working through specific challenges, and we draw from that experience when reviewing a game. This is important, as it allows us to give a more in-depth look at what players can expect.

There’s nothing quite as satisfying as conquering a self-imposed challenge. Video games are the perfect medium for defining such challenges and pushing yourself to achieve those goals. At VGL, we want to document our experience with these challenges, which vary in difficulty and required time investment, and encourage others to pursue their own.

Daunting Challenges
An engaging community

Great experiences become even better when shared with like-minded people. At VGL, discussions are always welcome! You can join conversations on the official VGL Discord and become an active part of our encouraging community. Together, we can motivate each other to reach our gaming goals and share our journeys along the way.

If this sounds like something you’d enjoy, go ahead and join our welcoming community! If there’s a specific game you’d like me to review, or a challenge you’d like me or the community to tackle, join the VGL Discord to make your request. You can also reach out anytime through the Contact Form for any questions or suggestions!

VGL Authors

Hello there!

I’m Arcesius, or Arc for short, the creator of VideoGameLizard.

I am truly passionate about discovering amazing games, and even more about overcoming video game-related challenges. And while these things can be enjoyed alone, they become much better when those experiences are shared. That’s what I believe, and that’s why VGL exists.

You’ll often see me play (precision) platformers, metroidvanias, rhythm games and action RPGs.

Hello everyone! I am your average East European software developer by day and game enthusiast by night, or whenever I have free time really.

Started gaming since the late 90s-early 2000s with bootleg consoles and PC, and it’s a passion that hasn’t left me since. This also lead to an unexpected side-hobby of writing about video games; it just feels fulfilling to praise or rant about a game I have finished.

My areas of expertise (if you can call it that) are action games, RPGs of the European kind, fighting games and strategy games occasionally.

Greetings!

I’m a writing and gaming hobbyist based in the US! When I’m not busy writing pretentiously long statements I’m certainly unqualified to make, you can find me entrenched in a games’ equivalent of dumpster diving, experiencing obscure titles in a vain attempt to pick the diamonds from the rough. In other words, I am a chronic obscure indies addict, and writing about them is my only means of coping.
